Mariners surge in Chester

Travis Townsend knocks in two points at the boards on his way to a dozen points. Ryan Kidd is nearby to assist. Kidd had six points and several rebounds in the game.

The Mariners came alive in Chester Friday night, creating a run of points that Hawthorne Christian couldn't surmount. The 64-40 result looked a lot closer at half time. Through some splendid shooting early, the Hawthorne Hawks kept matters close, trailing only by eight at the mid-point break. Then the Mariners defense adjusted, limiting the Hawks points in the third quarter.

DEFENSE

The big men all contributed. Robert Harwell led rebounds with nine, while Travis Townsend and Justin Reynolds each pulled down seven rebounds.  Junior Jonathan Mace grabbed five rebounds.

OFFENSE

Jonathan Kurtz had 18 points and four steals. Down low, Townsend and Harwell each contributed 12 points. Justin Reynolds and Alex Kurtz each bucketed eight points. Ryan Kidd came off the bench in the second half for a run of six points.
