Annual Egg Drop contest

What's in your container?
The Physics and Physical Science classes held a contest for engineering students to design the most protective container for a raw egg. Mrs. Smith supervised, but the Physics students set the rules. May Humpty Dumpty be found worthy!

Prizes awarded for (1) Most Creative, (2) Best Engineering, (3) Most Successful Drop

The fragile grade-A poultry projectile was dropped from a high ladder, testing the durability and shock-absorbency of the cushioning cocoon. The margin of error is low, so the tension was high --  sure to separate the yolks from the whites.

RULES

  • Dimension cannot exceed 2 cubic feet and 10 pounds
  • Must be "hand constructed" -- no purchased contraptions
  • No combustion, chemical reactions, or helium allowed
  • No glass allowed
  • Contraption must allow placement of egg by student
  • Only one egg per entrant. Successful contraptions will be dropped multiple times.
  • Contraptions used in previous years may not be used (again)
