Lake Pointe is currently enjoying its sixth academic year of instruction, having initially opened for fall semester 2005. Following is the history of how the academy came to be.

The University Model began with a group of Texas parents seeking the best of public, private, and home school for their children.
University Model Schooling (UMS) began in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and that's where educator Lori Mace encountered it and brought it back to the Carolinas.
LPA opened in August 2005 with less than a year to make all preparations, meeting in borrowed facilities.
Lake Pointe moved for its second year, expanded, and a funny thing happened along the way: the Lord provided a permanent campus.
Year three saw continued expansion and a change in leadership.
The class of 2009 were LPA's inaugural graduates. Expansion continued in academics and programs.
LPA was certified by the AdvancEd-accredited National Association of University Model Schools. Major renovations around the campus.
The 2010-2011 school year is underway, and history continues to be written.
