Girls on the Run

Lake Pointe is pursuing the beginning of a "Girls on the Run" chapter for girls in grades 3 through 6 in the spring semester. Parent Andrea Gunn has coaching experience in the program, and she has posted answers to frequently asked questions below.

We are so excited to be able to start an after school program at LPA for our girls grades 3rd-6th.  I know my daughter has been truly blessed by this program, but I can honestly tell you that it has been more of a blessing for me as her coach. Should you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Common Questions:

What is "Girls on the Run" (GOTR)

GOTR is an enrichment program that meets after school for girls grades 3rd -6th

It is not so much a running program, but rather a program for girls that allows the opportunity as Christians to disciple our girls and to teach them about many life skills.  Moderate fitness exercises are incorporated  to will help girls build confidence and practical application to what God’s word says in our lessons.

Here is a flow of the Tuesday / Thursday sessions:

  • Begin meeting with a lesson
  • Follow with a discussion time
  • Warm up that uses practical application of the lesson
  • More discussion/reflection and prayer time.
  • Finish session with a variation of running -- again the goal is just to keep moving forward.

When does the group meet?

We will be meeting every Tue/ Thurs. from 3:35-5PM at LPA

When does the season start?

Season starts first week of Feb and will go to April 19.

How much running is involved?

Again, this is not a running program as much as an enrichment program for girls.  Any girl between the grades of 3rd-6th are welcome to participate. The goal is to set a goal and to meet goals that are individually tailored.  There will be a 5K that the registration fee covers on April 22 in the Baxter Village.  Our girls will run/ walk in this event and medals will be given out to every girl crossing the finish line.

What is the cost to participate?

The fee is $130. Note: scholarships are available. Please see Andrea Gunn.

How to register?

LPA registration will be online.  See LINK …http://gotrtricountysc.org/registration.html

How soon do we need to sign up?

Now. The season officially starts for coaches this month and we need to register 8 or more girls to form a team.
