VB comes up just short
A two-and-a-half hour trip south was filled with expectation and anticipation. The Lady Mariners had a rematch with the talented and very well coached Oconee Christian team that eliminated Lake Pointe in the play-offs last year. Bethany Luke was on crutches for the match, injured during a practice earlier in the week. Without her anchor at the net, Lake Pointe players had to rise to the occasion.
With lengthy volleys on almost every point, the Mariners and Warriors rang scores in the 20's on every game. With a 2-1 advantage, Oconee pulled out game three and ended the season for The Green, but what promise for next year!
Soccer team ends season in play-offs
In its first official season in SCACS 2-A competition, the boys' soccer team faced Bob Jones Academy at the Bob Jones University stadium in Greenville.
After playing spirited defense, and holding the Bruins scoreless for much of the first period, the Mariners fell to BJA's excellent skills and teamsmanship.
While the Lake Pointe schedule is now over, the team's record is commendable, suggesting great promise for the next season.
VB advances to region play-offs
Sparked by talented seniors, a winning season in the competitive 2-A upstate region has propelled the Lady Mariners into the play-offs.
The team travels to Oconnee Friday for round of post-season play. The trip is a repeat of last year, when the Mariners also advanced to face the Warriors. Last year, Oconee Christian edged out Lake Pointe. This year, the Mariners hope to turn the tables. Go Green!
VB Spotlight shines on seniors
The Lady Mariner volleyball team closed out its season with a home match and a special program for its five seniors. Several 12th graders have played for Coach Luke for five years, and one even preceded her. Well done, seniors. Your spirit and leadership leave a gap for younger players to fill.
Cross Country scores at State
The girls' Cross Country team combined for third place in the Fall 2016 SCACS state meet. The Mariner ladies were led by junior Haden McCarter, who finished in second place overall.
The boys' team also paced very well. Several runners scored personal best times in the Saturday competition. Congratulations runners!
Boys' soccer reaches play-offs
The boys' soccer team earned a play-off bid in its first official season in SCACS 2-A competition. The Mariners posted a winning season, and earned the chance to travel to Bob Jones University's stadium for the regional play-offs.
